A former Galveston Hornet, Petteway (6-foot-6, 185 pounds) committed to Texas Tech when Pat Knight was the Red Raiders head coach.

Petteway averaged 27 points, nine rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game during his senior year of high school - also getting recruited by SMU, UTEP, Auburn, Clemson, Colorado, Auburn, and Colorado State.

His best game in 2011 came against DePaul, when the freshman scored 13 points in 15 minutes of play.

Petteway will sit out during the 2012-13 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
