Some of the greatest players to ever don the Red and Black
might now have the chance to be forever having their names etched into Texas Tech history at Jones AT&T Stadium.
On Thursday, Texas Tech Athletics announced the creation of
the Texas Tech Football Ring of Honor.
“The Ring of Honor will be a tremendous
addition to the legacy and heritage of Red Raider Football,” Athletic Director
Kirby Hocutt said in a news release on Thursday. “The careers of those that we
will celebrate in this Ring of Honor brought national recognition to this
university and left an incredible mark on our football program. Their
names will become a permanent fixture inside Jones AT&T Stadium so that all
who enter will be reminded of their outstanding contributions to Texas Tech University.”
The newly formed
ring of honor will be placed on the West Side of Jones AT&T Stadium.
It will be an
anonymous committee that will choose the candidates for the ring of honor,
following their recommendation it will come down to the Athletic Director to
make the final decision.
Tech will
announce the first class for the Ring of Honor on July 5th, and the
individuals chosen will be inducted at an official enshrinement ceremony on
August 31st, and the names will be unveiled at the Red Raiders first
home football game on September 1st, when Tech faces Northwestern
State.
