- Texas Tech defeated Northwestern State 44-6 in front of
50,236 fans, which marks the third consecutive home opener with 50,000 plus in
attendance
- With the win it gives the Red Raiders a 66-18-3 all-time
record in home openers, and also improves Tech to a 47-13 home record since
2003
- The Red Raiders extended their consecutive game-scoring
streak to 182 games tonight and the win snapped the five-game losing streak
that dated back to 2011
- Eric Stephens made his comeback tonight, touching the ball
19 times, 16 rushes for 58 yards and two trips to the end zone
- Stephens’ moved into 7th place all-time in
career yardage after a 7-yard pass from Seth Doege
- With his 58-yards rushing he moved past the 1,500 career
rushing yard mark, joining Baron Batch as the last one to do that
- By the end of the first half, Tech had spread the ball
around to eight wide receivers, by the end of the night 13 had touched the ball
- Bradley Marquez led the way in the receiving core as he
reeled in seven catches for 92 yards, which were both career highs
- Seth Doege went 23-for-34 for 199 yards, one touchdown and
one interception, while red-shirt freshman Michael Brewer went 10-for-13 for
122 yards and two touchdowns in the 4th quarter.
- Kenny Williams ran for 75 yards to lead the Red Raider
rushing attack, which also included Sadale Foster running for 44 yards.
- While the Red Raiders amassed 500 yards of total offense,
Tech held Northwestern State to just 84 yards, which is the fewest allowed
since 2010 when the Red Raiders allowed 118 yards against Northwestern State.
- Tech defense held the Demons to just 13 total yards
rushing, while Tech scrambled for 179 on the night
- That’s the fewest yards allowed by the Red Raiders on the
ground since 1998
- Red Raiders were 10-for-16 on third down conversions,
while the Demons were 3-for-14 on the night
- Tech (1-0) now travels to San Marcos next week to face
Texas State (1-0), who just got done beating Houston 30-13 in Houston. The Tech
