It was a weekend of a lot of firsts for the No. 24 Texas Tech football team.
First time to beat Iowa State in the Tommy Tuberville era, first
time to break into the Top 25 in the 2012 season and on Monday, the first time
for a Red Raider to garner a Big 12 Conference weekly award.
Senior cornerback Cornelius Douglas was named the Big 12
Defensive Player of the Week on Monday following his performance against Iowa
The converted wide receiver has started to make his mark in
the new-look Art Kaufman defense, recording three tackles and two interceptions
against the Cyclones.
The final interception Douglas returned 40 yards down to the
Iowa State nine-yard line and set up the Red Raiders offense for the final
touchdown of the night.
On the season, Douglas has seven tackles, six solo, and just the two picks, which is a tie for the team
lead with Cody Davis, who also has two.
Douglas is a part of the currently top-ranked defense in the
nation, but will be tested this week as No. 17 Oklahoma rolls into Lubbock
looking for revenge for the 2011 loss in Norman.
