Following two games where his performance was arguably
sub-par, Texas Tech gunslinger Seth Doege had one of arguably his best games of
his career against the then-No.5 team in the country.
Doege’s standout performance did
not go unnoticed as the senior was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the
Week on Monday by the conference office.
The award going to Doege snapped a streak of three-straight
weeks of Mountaineers garnering the award, including quarterback Geno Smith on October 1st.
Before the performance against West Virginia, Doege had
struggled throwing six interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns,
through the first five games.
On Saturday, Doege finished the game 32-for-42 for 499
yards, six touchdowns and just one interception, which was a tipped pass.
The 499 yards marks a new career-high for the Wolfforth,
Texas native and the six touchdown performance ties
his career-high, which was set earlier this season against Texas State.
At the half, when Tech was already up 35-7, Doege had already
thrown for 336 yards for four touchdowns, the 300-yard performance marked the
fourth of the season and 13th in his two-season career, including
this year.
Davis Dominates
Mountaineer Offense
Cody Davis has been a solid player for the Red Raiders in
his career, Davis making his team-leading 42nd start on Saturday,
and continuing to get better with experience.
Davis came out against the third-ranked offensive unit in
the country and helped shutdown three of the most explosive offensive players
in the country – Geno Smith, Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey.
Davis’ 13-tackle performance earned him the Big 12 Defensive
Player of the Week Award on Monday.
The 13 solo tackles marked a new season-high for the Red
Raider safety, and now has 306 career tackles, which leads all Red Raiders in
the past decade.
On the season,
the Red Raider leads the team with 45 tackles, 42 which are solo, two
interceptions, one he took back 88 yards for a pick-six, and ranks 10th
in the Big 12 Conference in tackles per game.
