Peyton Newell is one of the most sought after juniors in the country. The 6-foot-3 and 275-pound defensive lineman from Hiawatha (Kans.) is up to 19 offers, including one from Nebraska, and was up in Lincoln today for a second home game in a row.
"Oh yeah," Newell said. "We were here for the Michigan game and I liked it so much I figured we were on a free weekend so I could get back up there.
"We are going up to Notre Dame next weekend and then Texas A&M the following weekend. I wanted to get back up to Nebraska to get another feel for it before the season ended. I might also go to Kansas State on December 1st."
Newell has seen a lot of schools already and he says that what sets Nebraska apart from all of the other schools is the game day environment. He says that the fans know his name and try to encourage him to come to Nebraska.
"The fans at Nebraska are crazy. I just walk around the stands and the people and they are yelling at me 'Come to Nebraska!'. Some of the people know my name. The atmosphere are Nebraska is like no other and we have been to quite a few places."
Newell has seen a couple of classic games in Memorial Stadium on his two trips. The defensive line has played well in both of the games and he says that he and the defensive line coach have a great relationship going right now.
"I think that Nebraska is a great fit. I really like Coach Rick Kaczenski have a great relationship built so far. I can just watch him on the sidelines and how he interacts with his players is something that I really respect. I could see myself playing for him for four years."
