BGN Podcast: Iowa State Edition

Thanksgiving Day was Thursday, but Black Friday offers West Virginia fans a smorgasbord of Mountaineer sporting events to go with their leftovers.

As is typical at this time of year, our attention is divided in the latest edition of the podcast. Publisher Kevin Kinder and editor Patrick Southern discuss multiple issues related to both the basketball and football programs.

We break down WVU's win over Marist on the hardwood and what, exactly, can be gleaned from a game against a lower-level opponent. Particularly, should observers expect to see the sort of solid 3-point shooting the Mountaineers displayed.

On the football field, we debate whether West Virginia can win games with major offensive contributions coming only from its "big three" of Geno Smith, Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey.

On that topic, where does that trio rank among WVU's all-time best offensive combos? That debate is one that will likely continue in the weeks to come.

Also, we continue our weekly feature, breaking down a Big 12 football game not involving WVU. This week, it's the Bedlam rivalry between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. There's a divergence of opinion on the likely outcome among our staffers.

As always, we welcome suggestions for topics for our weekly podcast from listeners. Simply post on our message boards at, post on our Facebook page or tweet us @BlueGoldNews and we'll be sure to respond.
