Keep Moving Forward

Steve Strain explains how the Lady Raiders quickly moved on from their celebration at TCU to get ready for top-ranked Baylor tonight in Waco.

About 45 minutes after Saturday's game with TCU, Lady Raider Graduate Assistant Layne Reeves hollered for the players to end their post-game celebration and head to the bus.

It was time to head back to Lubbock.

It wouldn't be totally accurate to say "head home", because for several Lady Raiders, the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex IS their true home.  And from the sight of things at TCU's Daniel Meyer Coliseum Saturday, playing at TCU each year will be like a home game when the Lady Raiders play there.

The attendance was announced at a little over 2,000 and it seemed like at least half of them were Tech fans.

Unfortunately, they were pretty quiet in the early stages of the game with TCU jumping out to a 21-10 first half lead a little more than 12 minutes in.  But from that point on, it was all-Tech pretty much the rest of the way.

Casey Morris started the rally with a couple of three-pointers, Christine Hyde was flying all over the place on her way to a career night with 10 points and 16 rebounds, and Chynna Brown and Kelsi Baker also added double-figure performances helping the Lady Raiders storm back for a 64-46 win.

When it was all over, the players high-fived fans on the front row, and most of the players and all coaches later went into the stands celebrating the victory with their fans.

I don't know if the outcome of all Lady Raider games in Fort Worth will end as positively as this one, but one thought did cross my mind.

With TCU now a Big 12 Conference member and the several current and future Lady Raiders coming from the metroplex, Daniel Meyer Coliseum will turn into a mini United Spirit Arena each time the Lady Raiders come to town.

The next closest stop to the metroplex on the conference circuit is Baylor and that comes next on Tuesday.

How nice it would be if Coach Reeves has to cut that post-game celebration short too.  Wreck 'em!! Recommended Stories
