Much of the talk around Lubbock this week has centered on Texas Tech's quarterback situation. And…
Three Essential Keys
Texas Tech needs to force Sam B. Richardson to throw. Iowa State has a three running backs. Aaron Wimberly has rushed for over 100 yards in each of the past two games. James White and Jeff Woody have also contributed to the rushing attack. Richardson is not too shabby on the run game either. He's the second leading rusher on the team. If you take away the rushing attack, Iowa State must pass. Richardson can throw the ball, but the run game is Iowa State's better half.
Rack up fewer than 40 penalty yards
The Red Raiders need to be the more disciplined team. Iowa State is third in penalties in the Big 12 Conference. Texas Tech averages more than 30 penalties yards than the Cyclones. Iowa State's discipline keeps them in games. All three of the Cyclones losses have been within single digits. Holding and pass interference calls will happen. Texas Tech cannot afford any personal fouls, specifically late hits and unsportsmanlike conducts. Iowa State's opponents have the least amount of penalty yards called against them. Perhaps, if more penalties are called against their opponents, the Cyclones are 4-0.
Score at least 40 points
It sounds like something Texas Tech is going to do easily. Iowa State has not allowed 40 or more points since Oct. 15, 2011. Anything can happen when a Paul Rhoads coached team takes the field. Texas Tech clearly remembers the 2011 game, even the coaches who for the most part were not a part of the Texas Tech program at the time. With the quarterback question looming and the the rushing attack stagnant, scoring is more in demand than supply.
