Tech Takes Series From No. 3 Indiana, 3-1
Texas Tech continued an impressive performance from the three guys who took the mound. Starter and freshman left hander Ty Damron had a shaky start allowing one hit and two walks in the first. Junior left hand pitcher Cameron Smith came to his relief with an impressive six innings pitched with two strikeouts allowing zero runs and only five hits. Jonny Drozd closed out the game pitching the last two innings getting two strikeouts and allowing one hit.
Head coach Tim Tadlock is proud of the way his pitching staff performed this weekend and gives the credit to the pitching coaches.
"To go this weekend and pitch the way they did was quite impressive," Tadlock said. "You have to tip your hat to coach Hayward and coach Gardner. Those guys are doing a great job with them. "
Texas Tech was able to compliment their work on defense by producing runs. Overall the Red Raiders collected 11 hits and seven RBIs. That can be contributed to Bryant Burleson getting two hits out of four at bats and scoring one run. Adam Kirsch also produced at the plate with a pair of hits and three RBIs. Cameron Smith appreciated the run support today by the whole crew.
"Everybody one through nine today, all the hitters were humongous. They stroked it really nice today," Smith said.
The series as a whole was a big statement by the Red Raiders. This was their first series win over a top-five opponent since No. 2 Missouri in 2008. They outscored Indiana 23-8 in the series. After being picked eighth in the Big 12 Coaches Preseason Poll the Red Raiders showed they might exceed preseason expectations.
"We feel like we are going to compete with anybody, but to actually do it and to win the games was a big confidence boost," Tadlock said.
