Future Red Raider Wins Silver
It was the second straight year the Humble Summer Creek athlete finished the tournament with the silver medal in his hands. Allen's response was disappointment.
"Obviously, I was shooting for a gold medal this year because I won the silver medal last year too."
The future Red Raider linebacker will still keep his head high though.
"My dad always told me if you go out there and you try your best. I mean you try your absolute best and you still fail, I mean then what else is there you could've did."
Allen is a three-sport athlete at Summer Creek. He recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play football at Texas Tech. The other sport is the shot put. Allen may decide to skip his senior season in the shot put though.
"I don't know if I'm going to do it this year because I kind of want to focus on getting ready for college football. That's still something I've got to talk to my coach and parents about."
Allen has zero doubt in his mind where his heart lies. Football is his number one sport and the whole reason he started his wrestling career was to sharpen his skills as a linebacker.
"It helps a lot with leverage and staying low, but the main thing that people don't understand is if you're a linebacker and you have an offensive linemanattacking you, you've got to use your hands a lot and you've definitely got to use your hands in wrestling."
Allen is a huge fan of mixed martial arts and said if he doesn't make it to the NFL, MMA is a route he'd be interested in.
The Summer Creek product is currently using the workout plan Texas Tech coaches gave him to prepare for the fall. He is expected to report on campus June 1.
