Tech Baseball Falls in Stillwater

Oklahoma State topped Texas Tech 3-1 Friday night in Stillwater.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders dropped their series opener 3-1 to the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Stillwater Friday night.

Oklahoma State (21-9, 4-3) scored their first run in the second inning when Matt Withrow balked with runners on the corners. It was not long after the balk when Tim Tadlock called to the bullpen for Cameron Smith. The left-hander inherited the same situation with no outs, but slammed the door shut keeping Tech (23-10,4-6) within one run.

The momentum would not carry over to the offense as the Red Raiders continued their Friday night offensive woes.

Saulyer Saxon was a thorn in the Red Raiders side all night reaching base three times. He scored what would be the game winning run in the third inning on an RBI double from Conor Costello.

Tech had no answer until the fifth when Eric Gutierrez blasted a solo home run over the left field wall. Tech would eventually place runners at the corners with no outs, but the Cowboys returned the favor and killed the threat.

Oklahoma State would gain the two-run lead back when Saxon lined an RBI double down down the left field line to score Tim Awakawa.

Cowboys starter Jon Perrin (W, 3-2) pitched six innings allowing the only earned run for the home team. Closer Brendan McCurry (S, 6) improved his already stellar ERA from 0.47 to 0.45. He's allowed one earned run in 20 innings now.

Matt Withrow (L, 3-3) started the game and lasted one inning allowing the first run. Cameron Smith and Dominic Moreno each pitched more than three innings of relief. Smith allowed two earned runs on three hits. Two of the hits were doubles.

The Red Raiders will try to regroup Saturday. First pitch is set for 3.
