Hinton Commits to Texas Tech

Texas City linebacker D'Vonta Hinton pledged to the Red Raiders on Sunday morning, a day after visiting Lubbock for the spring game.

Texas Tech picked up its first
defensive prospect commitment of the 2015 class and fifth overall Sunday.

Texas City linebacker D'Vonta Hinton confirmed to RaiderPower.com via text message that he pledged to the Red Raiders.

Hinton, 5-foot-10, 200-pounds, was selected Class 4A first team all-state in 2013 by the Associated Press after compiling 148 tackles with 27 for loss, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a pair of defensive touchdowns.

The defensive standout visited Texas Tech on Saturday with his father for the Red Raiders' annual Red and Black scrimmage at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Hinton, who is unrated by Scout.com, chose Tech over offers from Louisiana Tech, Maryland, Texas State and Texas-San Antonio.

He joins three-star running back Corey Dauphine, four-star quarterback Jarrett Stidham, four-star junior college offensive lineman Lio Lafaele and three-star offensive lineman Trace Ellison as class of 2015 Texas Tech commits.
