Five Cool Facts: Texas Tech
SOLID HOME SCHEDULE
For the next few months Lubbock, TX will be overflowing with football fanatics from all over the country, because the Red Raiders have one of the most action packed schedules in school history. This will be the third time in 22 years Texas Tech has both the Longhorns and the Sooners on the home schedule. The most recent time was in 2012. As for non-conference games the Red Raiders will face the Arkansas Razorbacks and the last time the Red Raiders took on a SEC team was Ole Miss in the 2009 Cotton Bowl. With all of these big names coming to the Jones it’s safe to say attendance records will continued to be broken.
Texas Tech has already started a record-breaking season in attendance months before kickoff. First, season tickets sold out for the first time in school history as 38,502 fans committed to watch the Red Raiders battle against some of the biggest teams in the conference. This year will have 7,000 more rowdy season ticket holders in the stands than last season. One of the most anticipated games for Texans in general, when Texas Tech takes on rival Texas, marks the earliest complete sellout in history at Jones AT&T Stadium. The Red Raiders are getting fan support like never before and fans hope that translates to glorious victories on the field.
There will be many new faces wearing scarlet and black this season that fans should be eager to see. Texas Tech coaching staff has added needed depth to the defense and stacked up the talent on the offense. Fans have highly anticipated the arrival of Rika Levi, a 6-foot-3 and 355-pound defensive lineman, who will add a lot of power to the defense. Texas Tech gained two standout running backs Demarcus Felton, a workhorse at Spring Dekaney, and Justin Stockton, a class 5A first-team all-state running back from Cibolo Steele. Fans might see both suit up this season.
Last season’s reveal of the new north end zone redefined AT&T Jones Stadium. The new video board pumped up fans and really enhanced the fan experience at the Jones. Texas Tech has provided premium seating for Red Raider Club members by adding suites with exclusive amenities in the north end zone. Now Tech has turned its attention to the south end zone. Texas Tech officials announced a capital campaign totaling over 100 million dollars and renovation of the south end zone and an indoor practice facility are on the list among other improvements for Texas Tech athletics.
As for the Class of 2015, Texas Tech has received commits and even signings from some of the nation’s best recruits. The Red Raiders have recently reached financial aid agreements with the No. 19 overall player in the nation in five-star QB Jarrett Stidiham and legacy four-star defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko. With the season almost underway that could be a deciding factor for the rest of the recruiting class that are on the edge. With an action packed schedule and the depth Texas Tech has added to the roster recruits will be able to see what its really like to be a Red Raider.
