Dominant offensive lineman commits to the University of New Mexico…
Another OL for Tech?
At 6'6" and 310 lbs, Omar Castillo is a force to be reckoned with and would be a great addition for the Red Raiders, who typically look for o-linemen with height and agility. Omar, who hails from Roswell, New Mexico, played on both sides of the ball in high school, as an offensive and defensive tackle. When we talked with Omar, he informed us that he had switched his commitment from the University of New Mexico to Texas Tech. "Tech is a little closer to home for me, which is an advantage. It's also in the Big 12, which is definitely a plus." Omar benches 350 lbs. and squat 445 lbs. His best 40 time is an impressive 4.9. Having already committed to New Mexico back in January, Omar knew he had a tough phone call to make after he made the switch. "I called the New Mexico coaches and let them know of my decision. They were kind of upset, but they told me I need to do what's best for me. For the most part they were pretty cool about it." Safeties Coach Carlos Mainord headed up the recruiting effort for Tech. With the Raiders already close to their limit on scholarships, Castillo is a likely grey shirt candidate, although he said that no final decisions have been made concerning his status for the 2007 season.
