I am
master of the obvious.
When Texas Tech lets the other team score more runs than we do, that means
we usually lose. Tech gave up 12 runs on 19 hits.
I don’t have a preoccupation
with weather technology and prognostication.
It was cold. I know a certain local forecaster that promised 55 degrees and
sunny. It was 35 and overcast. Close, but hey it's the 21st century and we all
know Doppler-Nexrad-Stormtrack technology hasn't advanced all that much since
1998. So we will let it slide this time. I do not know if I can state the same
for Red Raider pitching.
Hit the highlights would
you!
Texas Tech fought back to overcome a tenacious pitching performance from
Northwestern Wildcat starter Dan Schwartz, finally breaking up his no hitter in
the 7th inning. Training 8-0, Tech drew a walk and a base on a Wildcat throwing
error. The Red Raiders got their first hit from Geoff Byrnes, as he
loaded the bases on a single. The next pitch Lubbock native Taylor Ashby
doubled, scoring two. Chris Hall cut the Wildcat lead in half and chased
Schwartz from the game on a 2 RBI single to center field.
In the 8th inning, Roger Kieschnick doubled to lead off followed by a Kyle Martin walk. A balk advanced both of the runners into scoring position and
then Kieschnick scored on a wild pitch. Matt Smith then smashed a
towering shot over the right field wall, and Tech was only trailed by 1. But the
Red Raiders could not complete the comeback, and fell to Northwestern 12-7.
Kudos from the cheap seats:
The young gentleman (about 65yrs old) that offered to put me up in his (Rip
Griffin) box for the game was class! God I love Lubbock people! I had to refuse
due to journalistic integrity and stupidity. Do they sell cold remedy at the
Rip?
Senior pitcher Trey Schurr showed flashes of brilliance by pitching his
way out of jam in the top of the 4th and throwing two more scoreless innings. He
gave up some runs in the 7th, but he had good stuff.
The trip to Negative town:
The loss says it all. Tech has had to play from behind in every game this
season. Let's grab a lead and close it out.
Red Raider fans, please come on out this weekend. We need some rowdy people at
the "Law" to let this team know we are behind them. I hear the weather will be
nice.
Final Out:
One more thing; bring a parka, bathing suit, toothpick, and a band aid. The
Parka is for the cold, the bathing suit is for when the sun comes out, and the
toothpick is for the hotdogs. The band aid is for Texas Tech pitching.
