Welcome Aboard!

The Red Raiders landed a big time commitment Friday evening from guard Tyree Graham out of Village Christian Academy. Graham arrived in Lubbock early Friday morning and it didn't take long for him to decide Texas Tech is where he wants to be. Come inside as Graham talks about his decision and why he is so excited to be the newest Red Raider.

Tyree Graham arrived in Lubbock early this morning for his official visit and it didn't take long for him to decide it was the place for him.

"I committed to Texas Tech today," said an excited Graham.

Normally players commit towards the end of their visits, but Graham felt right at home in Lubbock. He was attending the Red Raiders practice session when he let Coach Knight know his intentions.

"I got into town at 10 this morning. I was watching practice, sitting down next to Coach Knight. While I was sitting with him I told him that I wanted to commit to Texas Tech. He told me that was a very good choice," laughed Graham.

Although his decision may seem a bit hurried, the 6'1, 180 pound guard has been contemplating everything for several weeks. He knew that playing for Bob Knight would bring out the best in him, and once he had a chance to meet the General in person, it sealed the deal.

Coach Knight is well known for getting the most out of his players, both in the classroom and on the court. This was very appealing to Graham and was ultimately his deciding factor.

"There is a tradition with Coach Knight. He is a very good coach. He's someone that is going to push me and get the best out of me. I don't want to go somewhere that isn't going to make me the best player I can be."

Originally from Durham, NC, Graham felt that he needed a change of scenery to ensure that he remains focused on what's important to him: basketball and education.

"I'm out with half of the team right now. I really think Lubbock will be a good place for me. I needed to get away from home and get into another environment. Lubbock will allow me to do just that."

2 other school were in the running for Graham, South Carolina and Virginia Tech.

"I visited South Carolina last week and I had a good time. There is something about Lubbock though and I wanted to come back here. I was planning on visiting Virginia Tech, but I found my home here in Lubbock."

So is this end of the road as far as Graham's recruitment goes?

"I'm done," said Graham. "I'll go home and talk to my dad and make sure we're on one accord, but I'm through."

Graham is Texas Tech's 3rd commit for the class of 2008, joining Corbin Ray and Robert Lewandowski.
