Red Raiders offer RB Stepfan Taylor

After a solid junior season, Mansfield running back Stepfan Taylor is making quite a name for himself. He now holds more than a dozen offers as he gets ready for summer camps and unofficial visits. So what’s new for the Texas running back? RaiderPower.com has the update…

It is obvious that being patient with recruiting is working out well for Mansfield running back Stepfan Taylor. Though he holds a solid 13 offers, Taylor has not made many trips because of his first obligation, academics.

“With all of the offers I have, I don’t really have a favorite. I am kind of open, but still looking,” Taylor said. “I feel blessed by the way my recruiting is going, but I haven’t been able to go to any colleges because I am busy with my school work.”

He has managed to slip away from the books to go to junior days at Texas A&M and TCU, but those are his only trips. Either way, the 5-foot-11, 205-pound Taylor holds offers from Missouri, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Kansas, Minnesota, Stanford, Houston, Arizona, TCU, Louisville, and Wisconsin.

But it seems that one particular school recently came out of nowhere and extended a scholarship offer to him quite recently.

Texas Tech just recently started talking to me, and they just offered,” Taylor said. “This just happened a week ago and kind of caught me by surprise.”

Keeping in contact with Taylor is Coach Seth Littrell, and he spoke about one of their recent conversations.

“Coach Littrell talked to me about how everyone knows that Texas Tech is a passing offense,” Taylor said. “But he was telling me that the running backs get the ball a lot too. He told me that the backs are very involved in the offense.”

As an all-around offensive player, those words were good news for Taylor. Last season, he had 1,586 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns. As a receiver out of the backfield, Taylor caught 19 passes and added another four touchdowns.

“That offense [Texas Tech’s] works well for me because that is almost the kind of offense we run now,” Taylor said. “It’s okay with me, I like catching the ball too.”

Taylor is pleased with how his recruitment has gone so far and feels he is a top target on many schools’ boards. It seems like he is in small company with the Red Raiders, as he said that there have not been too many running backs offered.

“I think they [Texas Tech] have offered two other running backs,” Taylor said. “I think they told me that they are only taking one in this class, but they did not give me a timetable of when I needed to commit.”

But a decision may or may not come that soon anyway. Taylor said that he would like to end the process over the summer. Of course, that is if he finds everything he is looking for.

“Making the decision may come over the summer when I find the right fit,” Taylor said. “If not, I will wait until the season.”
