Oklahoma OT Trent Spurgeon is one of the top linemen in the state, and he is at the top of the Red Raiders’ short list of recruits they are hoping to land. Spurgeon, who visited the South Plains back in April, recently returned from a trip to Tucson to check out the University of Arizona. He came back very impressed with what he saw, and he says that it’s a tight race between his top two schools.
“Recruiting is going good. I’d like to make a decision soon, but it might take longer than I’d hoped. Both Arizona and Texas Tech are great schools with great people, and it’s just difficult to decide between the two.”
While Trent feels the Red Raiders’ football program is more established, he said that the atmosphere at Arizona was amazing, something that’s making his decision very difficult.
“At Tech, the things that stand out the most are the team, Coach Leach, and the campus. In Arizona, I loved the city, the coaches, and the weather.”
For now, both recruiting staffs are working hard to sway Spurgeon their way. And despite wanting to have a decision made in the near future, at this point neither side holds a clear advantage.
“Hopefully I’ll have a decision made by the end of the month. Both schools are pretty even right now; I don’t have a leader.”
Spurgeon will be a huge addition to the Red Raiders’ 2010 class if they can beat out Arizona. Spurgeon really likes Coach Moore and his staff, and he knows that he can be successful in the Red Raiders’ offense. The recruiting battle is far from over and could go either way, so RaiderPower.com will be keeping in close contact with Trent over the next few weeks.
