With fall practice in full swing in preparation for the upcoming season, Mike Leach and his coaching staff aren’t getting much rest as recruiting for the class of 2010 is in high gear as well. Tuesday afternoon was another busy day at the football offices with Ocala, FL wide receiver Kadron Boone phoning in to give the Red Raiders his verbal commitment.
RaiderPower.com spoke with Boone about his decision and his upcoming plans.
“I’m actually on my way up to the school to announce my commitment at 3:30,” Kadron explained. “I’m going to commit to Texas Tech. I feel like their offense fits my style of play more, and that’s ultimately what it came down to.”
Kadron, who racked up 1,228 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Celtics during his junior season, is one of the most sought-after receivers in the nation. Boone holds over 25 offers programs around the country, including Florida, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma.
“I narrowed it down OU, Georgia, Miami, and Texas Tech, but Tech was just the best fit for me.”
With his decision made, the 6’1”, 195 lb. wide out says he is eagerly anticipating his upcoming trip to the South Plains.
“I actually haven’t been [to Lubbock] yet, but I have a visit set up soon. I’m going to be there September 4th-6th to see the facilities and the school. I’m already really familiar with the program and the coaching staff, so it will be mainly just to see everything.”
Boone says he feels very good about his decision but is not ruling out taking a few other official visits this fall.
“Recruiting wasn’t that bad. It was actually good, and I thought it was going to be a lot worse. But I’m happy to be done and that I found a school that fits me so well in Texas Tech.”
