Despite playing the role of underdogs and facing the second largest crowd ever in Lincoln, the Red Raiders jumped out to an early lead and never looked backed in their fourth consecutive victory over the 15th ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers.
In his second start for Texas Tech, Steven Sheffield lead the Red Raiders to a 31-10 victory, although it was the Red Raider defense who really stole the show.
Ruffin McNeill’s defense had a phenomenal game and even got in on the scoring action, with defensive end Daniel Howard recovering a fumble and returning it for an 82 yard touchdown. Defensive end Brandon Sharpe disrupted Nebraska’s rhythm throughout the game, recording four of Tech’s five sacks.
Safety Franklin Mitchem sealed the Red Raider victory with an interception in the final minutes of the game.
Sheffield finished the game with 234 yards, one passing touchdown, and two rushing touchdowns. WR Detron Lewis led the wide receiving corps with five receptions for 100 yards.
The victory moves Texas Tech to a 5-2 overall record and 2-1 in conference play. The Red Raiders will face off with the Texas A&M Aggies in Lubbock next Saturday at 6 p.m.
