Sharpe Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Week

Senior defensive end Brandon Sharpe picked up four sacks in win at No. 15 Nebraska and was named co-defensive player of the week in the Big 12 Conference Monday morning.

LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior defensive end Brandon Sharpe was rewarded for an outstanding effort on Saturday at No. 15 Nebraska as the Big 12 Conference named him the co-defensive player of the week earlier this morning.
Sharpe shared this week's defensive honors with Earl Thomas of Texas who registered seven tackles and three pass breakups against Oklahoma.
The Nebraska offensive line was a mere bump in the road for the senior product out of Lyons, Ga., as he hounded Husker quarterback Zac Lee to the tune of four sacks. The four sacks marked a career high and moved him into second place in the Big 12 rankings with eight sacks on the season. Sharpe registered seven total tackles and one pass breakup to help the Tech defense hold the Huskers to just 285 yards of total offense.
Sharpe is the first Tech defensive player to earn the weekly league defensive accolade since Daniel Charbonnet did so back on Nov. 3, 2008. Charbonnet won the defensive award twice during the 2008 season.
Sharpe and the rest of the Red Raiders are gearing up for battle against rival Texas A&M on Saturday night at Jones AT&T Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and tickets can be purchased online at www.texastech.com.
