DALLAS — There is no doubt in my mind that this will
be one of the best media days events in Big 12
history.
It also will be the last with two schools who hopefully
still show up to the Westin hotel in Dallas.
The talk about Nebraska and Colorado playing in their final
season will surely be the hottest topics with the national and regional media.
Will Colorado spend its last season with head coach Dan
Hawkins and have a new one when it joins the Pac-10 next season?
Can Nebraska win the North Division one final time and claim
their third and final Big 12 Championship just down the highway at Cowboys
Stadium in Arlington before saying good bye to Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe
and the other 11 schools?
Can Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin stay healthy all
season and send Baylor to their first bowl game in more than a decade?
Will preseason MVP Jerrod Johnson lead the Aggies to a bowl
win and finally put Texas A&M back with the Big 12 elite?
What I want to know is what will the name be next season.
Will it even change? Can we just get rid of the number at least?
When it comes to Texas Tech on the other hand, there will be
plenty of media members salivating at the chance to hear new head coach Tommy Tuberville go off again about the TV revenue sharing or his
comparison of Beebe to the other commissioners of the BCS Conferences.
I think Tuberville is done
touching on that subject.
Instead, the talk will be about the new version of the “Air
Raid” offense in Lubbock and who will be running it.
Sticks or Potts?
Both Steven Sheffield and Taylor Potts will be on hand to
answer those questions and even somewhat create their own platforms for their starting
quarterback candidacy. It’s a nice change from practically having to break into
a practice at Tech in prior seasons and hopefully yank a star player aside to
get a quote from him.
Stay tuned — this will for sure be an interesting
three days in Dallas.
